More Writing Ideas

  • Secondary students will enjoy writing a short story or picture book for students at the local primary school. Arrange a time when they can visit and read their writing to small groups of students.

  • Organise a whole school writing event. Perhaps the principal can write the orientation and then the ‘story’ is passed from class to class so the next part of the story can be added through joint construction. Set a time limit such as 60 minutes for each class to write their part and pass it on.

  • Present a reader’s theatre (have students write a reader’s theatre script using one of the books) and invite friends, family and community to come along to your performance. In writing the script, you might even add a twist to the original story! Remember to have designated ‘reporters’ on hand to conduct interviews and capture the action ready for upload onto your school website.

  • Yr6Girl-WritingWrite your own books in small groups using one of the selected books or one of your choosing as springboards to retells and innovations on the stories. On your day (or week) of celebration, share your books with family and friends at school, at a local community centre or perhaps at a school nearby where you can swap stories.

  • Take your class or school on the move! Set up at a local venue (the local shopping centre, library, town hall or the park) and invite students to read their writing.
