National Literacy Ambassador Profile
Great news!!! Deborah Abela
has been appointed as the 2010 National Literacy Ambassador
for National Literacy and Numeracy Week - Learning for
Living!
As the National Literacy Ambassador, Deborah Abela will promote the importance of literacy skills during this year’s celebrations for National Literacy and Numeracy Week.
When she was younger, Deb spent her time imagining she was on great adventures all over the world. When she grew older, she went on these adventures for real. Deb has slept beside alligators in Zaire, sailed down Venetian canals and was once thrown in jail by heavily armed men in Nigeria before bribing her way out. Deb also worked as a writer for the kids' Cheez TV show at Network Ten for seven years before leaving to write novels about….a girl who goes on adventures all over the world!!!
Deb authored the Max Remy Superspy series, Jasper Zammit (Soccer Legend) series and The Remarkable Secret of Aurelie Bonhoffen. Her latest book, Grimsdon, about flying machines, sea monsters and flooded cities will be out this August.
Deb has four critical tips for developing stronger literacy skills –
‘read lots, practice writing as often as you can, write about things you care about and that interest you and …start now!’.
